Kirkjufell is a cool-lookin’ and recognizable hill on Iceland’s Snæfellsnes peninsula. I didn’t have a lot of time in Iceland, but this iconic peak felt like a nice objective. Fortunately, the weather in Iceland was pretty dry during my visit, as this would have felt dangerous in wet conditions.
Route finding was easy, the trail is obvious. There are three sections with static lines which were nice to have. The trail isn’t direct, it switchbacks across the narrow ledges, which felt pretty exposed; a slip would lead to a pretty long tumble.
It only took 2 hours car-to-car, with a stop up top for lunch, which made for a nice jaunt on my lap of the peninsula.
